Bling, shimmer and glitter - Eureka Challenge #190

This is my design team entry for challenge #190 at Eureka Stamps - "add some bling" (Eureka Stamps blogspot.   I used the digi image Heart Bouquet. Originally I intended to use it for an anniversary card.   However, I recently learned that a friend from church is going to celebrate her 90th birthday, and I wanted to have a card ready for our quilting group to sign. Norma still drives, loves to play bridge, and quilted with us until recently. I colored with shiny metallic pens and chalk pencils. The letters are cut from pink glitter cs, the bg is shiny eggplant cs and I used shimmery champagne cs for the base. This cs looks great when embossed -  I used a Darice heart embossing folder.  There are shiny gems on the corners of the image panel.

Norma is 90 - Step card with Kanban papers

I recently purchased a fairly large pack of papers by Kanban.  They are elegant -  black, gold, cream, white, and I am enjoying finding ways to use them.  I am also trying to discover ways to make step cards, using purchased pre-cut card bases.  (Next, I need to learn how to upload pictures rather than scans!).  For this card, I used a 4.25 x 5.5 piece.  I cut the edge strip on either side, and used for the edge of this card.  The remaining center section provides a background for the butterfly, and is the card that is raised when the step card is displayed.  There were 2 left over 1x1 pieces, and they are on the part that folds under.  I used letter dies for the special greeting at the bottom.  The large butterfly is a part of the Kanban collection.    For the inside - I used a coordinating piece and cut it to fit the inner part.  I used shimmery  cs for the computer generated sentiment. I distressed with Tim Holtz distress ink.  I hope you will let me know what you think.

Tea Pot Party for Gabby

Each week the Tea Potters at SplitCoastStampers create and send cards to someone who can use a little cheer.  This week our cards go to Gabby, who is experiencing some health problems.  The suggested theme is "chef".  I have found that the Dearie Dolls freebies are a great source when I need an image and don't have something in my collection that works.  This cute (pre colored) guy is a case in point.  Not sure pizza is gourmet fare, but it is something of comfort food!  It also fits the challenge to evoke the smell of food - the tantalizing pizza is making me hungry right now!  For embellishments I used a Spellbinder set of dies (Blooms Two) I seldom think about using.  On the other hand, the letters are from a Cuttlebug Olivia set - one of my first purchases of dies, and a very useful one. For the 2x2x2 challenge - a double strand of twine; 2 shiny gems, and 2 letters.

Eureka Stamps challenge #189 - Buttons and Bows

This week for my Design Team card at Eureka Stamps I selected these adorable kittens - "Big n Little Cats".  The challenge is "buttons and bows, found here:   Eureka Stamps.   Both the image and sentiment are available as stamps or digi images at Eureka.  They have lots of cats - I may use them all for my granddaughters who really like their cats!  I thought this funky DP resembled the stripes on the kitty, and I completed the black and white design with polka dotted DP and ribbon.  If you look closely you will spot the button at the left. This completes the middle column for the tic tac toe challenge. 2 + 2 + 2   - 2 DP; 2 Embellishments (ribbon and button); 2 ovals.

for Errol

We just heard that our brother-in-law is in the hospital and needing a lot of tests.  I like this Dearied Doll pre-colored image for guys - no frills or flowers here.  The trio of die cuts are from a very early Cuttlebug set - Asterisk.  I layered the red on the reverse blue of the DP.  The die cut button is from Kraft cs. The strips are polka dotted Washi tape and some ric-rac.

These are RAK  cards I sent on for the Tuesday TeaPot party at SCS,  I seriously need to reduce my stash, and I feel this is a way to honor the sender.

Center Step Card - HB, Iva

This is my first center step card.  .I purchased a packet of pre-cut bases since I am not very good at cutting styles like this!  It has already been sent to my sister - in - law - I know this is a favorite color of hers.  The stamp is SU, and the Blessings is a Cheery Lynn die.    I used Washi tape on the inside, and added a couple of stickers to fill in spaces.

Alaska Fire Service Hotshots faced an intense fire season in 2015. Some of the best firefighters over the past decade have come from Durango, where people grow up outdoors and are accustomed to rugged country and high elevations.
Inspiration for coloring of this card = photo from the Durango, CO Herald - as seen on Facebook. The photo was taken in Alaska and features several firefighters from Durango.

This needs a bit of explaining.  One of our grandsons has achieved his dream job - a hot shot firefighter.  He is currently stationed near Salt Lake City, but will travel as needed.  I have had this image (from Little Stamps of Heaven) in my digi files for a while.  The embossed bg is by Darice.  I smudged a lot with Memento London Fog and Tim Holtz Distress Tea Dye inks.  The edges are also distressed - I figure these firefighters are usually smudged and distressed!  The images are colored with chalk and chalk pencils - my favorite for a soft and smudgy look!

Sending Sunshine

I used my brand new prize from DRS - the sentiment and two branches.  Thanks to Robin, DT member at DRS, for her card inspiring me to combine the two branches in this manner.  I combined chalk pencils (branches, bird house) and metallic gel pens (leaves, trim) -for me, this is a favorite coloring style.
The oval die cuts are Spellbinders, and Tiny Flowers die cuts  are by Cheery Lynn.  The DP is cut from a framed piece that was probably designed to use for scrapbooks or perhaps for letter writing.  This sentiment makes me think of the oldie "You are my sunshine...".

Eureka Stamps challenge #188 - sketch

This week the challenge at Eureka Stamps is to follow the provided sketch -Eureka Stamps Blogspot.  This is one of my favorite types of challenges!  Check it out - you have until Sunday at 3pm EDT to complete the challenge, and you may enter up to 3 times.  If you use an image from Eureka you have an extra chance to win!  I selected this digi Flower Basket from Eureka.  The sentiment is also a digi from Eureka - what a great font, and a most versatile sentiment.  Images are available in traditional rubber as well as digital format.
The coral bg is embossed with the Darice butterfly embossing folder, and the ribbon is Martha Stewart (in my stash for a long time!).  I colored the image with both metallic gel pens and chalk pencils.

For Barb

MHK color inspiration

This is for a friend who is having knee replacement tomorrow.  She is also a nurse so I thought this would be appropriate - though she will most likely be home by the time the card arrives!  IRL the colors of the DP are closer to the inspiration than they appear on the screen.  The small strip is a piece of silver sequins on fabric - I have several items like this in my stash and decided to try one!   The little hearts and flower are brads.

"9 to 5"

Do you remember the Dolly Parton song /movie "9 to 5"?  I did not see the movie, but  now the song is going through my head...  Not sure this guy is working 9 to 5 LOL!  It is another Dearie Doll image - I am using them a lot as I enjoy the humor and I get a lot of variety!   This goes to an accountant - hence the numbers on the bg.  I added a clip and a bit of burlap.  I confess I have a terrible time thinking of things to use for masculine embellishments - especially when a sketch suggests flowers.

Black and White with red

This silhouette is one of my favorite images from Beccy's Place.  I like the image, and I also really like black and white!  I thought the tiny red  punches at the corner echoed the main items on the image - not sure if they are flowers or seed pods, or...  (Gardening is not my forte!).  I added glitter to the tiny butterfly as well as the flowers of the image.

Spring song

I can hear the birds singing - at least, in my mind!  This image is from Our Daily Bread, Music Speaks.  The card is a bit of an experiment for me.  I have a whole pack of this double sided cs - black and cream stripes backed with solid cream, which I used for stamping the image.  The back of the card is also striped.  I colored with shiny metallic pens, trimmed with deckle edge scissors, and added Making Memories mini flowers with tiny black gems. The two strips are Washi tape.
ODBD:   o = outdoor;  ODB stamp;  d =  deckle edge;  b = bird, butterfly, black, beads, blossoms;     d = double row (washi tape); dimension.  Jo's - colors- black, red, green;  embellishments - flowers, beads;  technique - layering.

Pink and silver birthday

These panels are embossed on shimmery silver cs.  The Happy Birthday is by Cuttlebug, and the hearts by Darice.  I colored the Our Daily Bread image with markers - mostly shiny metallics.  I added strips of Washi tape and some pink lace, as well as a tiny flower.  For the ODB challenge:

From My Stash

I saw the sketch at Share Joy and am hoping I have shown the inspiration it provided.  The top panel is from a packet of watercolor prints (a prize).  Other pieces are from my stash; the blue strip is Washi tape.  The butterfly is a purchased punch out; the Blessings die is CheeryLynn.

For Terry

I hope this is ok for a masculine card.  Our son-in-law has a broken ankle, so he is pretty much confined to the recliner (there should be a remote in his hand LOL!).  Our daughter quilts, so that is a good touch in this Dearie Doll pre-colored image.  I use it a lot - quick and easy as that is often necessary for a get well type of card.  I used several papers acquired at a recent yard sale.  The little brown strips are duct tape that looks like plaid burlap, and the other narrow strip is washi tape.

Baby Card - Design Team card for Eureka Stamps challenge 187

I thought it would be a good idea to have a generic card in my stash - hence the "neutral" yellow tones!  This adorable Baby Zebra and the sentiment with the great font are from the digis available at Eureka Stamps - they also come in the more traditional rubber stamps.  This week the challenge is to create a baby card.  The challenge is open through Sunday, and you may enter a maximum of 3 times.  The papers, button and Washi tape are from my stash.  The image is colored with a dark grey Prisma.
I used the sketch from Paper Craft Crew, but I am entering too many challenges to participate in theirs.

Scripture, lace, hearts and flowers

I enjoy yard sales, and I scored big recently.  I bought two plastic tubs with hanging folders - and the folders were filled with papers and materials for partially completed projects as well as embellishments.  I had stopped late in the morning - they wanted to get rid of stuff so I spent a whole $12!  On the other hand, this makes me realize I need to use my things - before long my kids will be getting rid of all of my treasures!  At any rate, this DP and tiny heart brads were among the acquisitions.  The bg is dark green and lace is pale yellow.  Flowers - by Prima, and scripture from Our Daily Bread Music Speaks; Labels 4 dies.
