QKR Stampede Anything Goes Challenge - Option, birthday

I think I have a friend or two I can "honor" with this card!  I struggle to use fairly large images and sentiments on the same card, so I decided to make a tag for the sentiment.  Thus is my design team card for this week's challenge at QKR Stampede.  The challenge is always anything goes.  This week the optional theme is a birthday card.    We would encourage you to enter - you may have as many as 3 entries.  The winner receives a digi from QKR Stampede - more than one if you use one of their images (Eureka images count as well.)  The deadline is 3 pm EDT on Thursday.  Check out the blog for some fun ideas from the rest of the team.
Image and sentiment - QKR stampede ("Old goat" and "No kid"); bg paper is called "Haystack" by Colorbok; button dies with metallic thread ties. The inside verse includes a birthday greeting.

DT card for QKR Stampede challenge #244 - ATG: option- Things with Wings

The challenge this week at QKR Stampede is the usual Anything Goes.  The option this week is "Things with Wings".  You may enter up to 3 times by 6 p.m. Thursday, May 24.  If you are a winner you might be the owner of this snazzy gal, or one of the other great QKR digis.  You may win even more images if you use a QKR stamp.  This image is called "Looking Pretty" - guess that depends on your point of view!  I dressed her up in pink, and used scraps of DP, Spellbinder dies, an embossing folder and gems to complete the look.  The top layer of each flower uses the corresponding DP.  It does not show on the screen, but I used a new-to-me product to enhance the flowers and the lady's feathery parts.  I need to explain... at a yard sale, I purchased a jar of what I thought was silver glitter.  When I opened the jar, it was a silvery paint - rather thin and full of glitter.  It is called Glitter Specialty finish by Martha Living.  I used a fine paint brush to cover the selected parts, and I really like the result IRL.  Bonus - it dries very quickly.   Anyone familiar with this product - do you know how it is meant to be used?

Graduating Bear - QKR Anything Goes Challenge 243 - DT card

This week the Anything Goes challenge at QKR Stampede has the option of Graduation.  Some years I have had quite a few graduation cards to send - not so many this year.  I think there is a relative graduating from the U. of Minn. so I used dark burgundy and gold for that school.  The image is Graduating Bear, from the QKR Stampede digi store - colored with an aqua pen and water color pencils.  I used a piece of DP for the sentiment, and backed those pieces with black cs.  The background DP is from a pad called Heirloom by DCWV.  A touch of black ribbon, gold mesh, and gold gems complete the card. (Tic-tac-toe /diagonal/ ribbon, bling, colored pemcils.)

Leah's Graduation

A few days ago I posted the card I made for our grandson.  His sister also graduates this year - in fact, in a couple of days - so this card is already in the mail.
The folded card is 4.25x6.5.  I added another fold to be able to include more images.
Bottom view:open card - embossed bg, her name and school (logo from the website); panel 2 - she has a job as assistant manager in charge of training on American Cruise line ships - she will be doing a lot of traveling!  Main panel - Dearie Doll graduate, and a special verse;  right panel - embossed bg with a strip from DP (believe in your Dreams) and a key sticker.
Folds:  I started with a piece of cs 11x6.5.  I made one valley fold at the right of about 2 in.  I then folded from the left so the edge met the score line at the right.  I then made a fold dividing this left panel in half.  View 2 shows this left panel folded back, and view 3 shows the left panel open.  Besides providing space for more images, this card can easily stand for display.  I also dug into my photo boxes and made a little brag book of photos from years past.   This  is a good way to give young people pictures they may not own themselves - and often provides a
smile or two!

QKR Stampede Challenge #242 - Anything goes: Option - feminine (Mother's Day)

This week the Anything Goes challenge at QKR Stampede has the option of doing a feminine/Mother's Day card.  My mother passed away a few years ago, but I made a card suitable for any one who has had a great influence,  You may enter the QKR Stampede challenge up to 3 times through 6 pm EDT on Thursday.  Win this digi or another from their store!  This is called tulips and Pansies.    I colored with Prismas, and fussy cut the image to mount it on a deep purple mat dry embossed with Swiss Dots.  I added a strip of lace and a bit of glittery lacy fabric for some glitz.

Some cheer for Anthony

Some of you may have seen previous posts for the SplitCoastStampers Tuesday TeaPot party. Our cards may be sent to a recipient in need of cheer.  I have not been a regular participant of late, but this week I wanted to be sure to join in.  The cards go to Anthony, a 16 yer old undergoing his second heart surgery.  Side effects have caused him to lose his voice and have difficulty swallowing.  I have "known" his mother for some time through SCS. We sent cards a couple of years ago, and she said he has kept them in a memory box - I think all cardmakers are happy to know that their cards really do make an impact.   One of Anthony's interests is basketball.  I am pleased to have a chance to use some of the materials left from when our granddaughter played HS basketball! The basket is a Brad Buddy from Hot off the Press.  The sentiment is from QKR Stampede, and that backing strip is duct tape.
Here is a link to the TeaPot party.  You are more than welcome to join us!

Graduation, Hal

Two of our grandkids graduate this month.      They are brother and sister - fortunately, the ceremonies are a week apart - easier for the parents!  Unfortunately, hubbys severe back pain is preventing any travel, so we will miss the big events.
I recently saw an example of what I call a double fold card - I am sure it has a name.  Both the designer and name of the card escape me, but I wanted to try it.  I think it makes for a great special occasion card and also one that allows a few extra elements - when I do graduation cards I like t include some pertinent images!  In this case - the name, the year, a college logo   - this is the Jayhawk from the Univ. of Kansas for those not from around here!  Hal has been accepted at a vet school - hence the vet (dearie Dolls) and a scientific (!) magnifying glass sticker.  I added  a bit of Designer paper with   appropriate words, and a computer generated verse.  The almost invisible graduate is from Dearie Dolls.
This was put in the mail earlier today, and I have no other photos of the process.  The base started as 4.5x11.  At the right, I made a mountain fold at about 1.75.  I then folded from the left, to meet the fold line at the right.  the left hand section was then folded at the half way point with a mountain fold. (The section with the vet and magnifying glass fold under the section with his name (left photo)  When closed, it covers half of the inner part.  the embossed panel folds back and is behind the main panel when closed)  The advantage is that it stands easily as a display card - and looks a bit more impressive than a regular card.  Sorry I am not good at directions or photos..
